According to WEDO, many foreign researchers and Filipino writters are trying to discover on where the word
ARNIS originated. Some say's that the word ARNIS came from wordings carved on an armor of a Spanish soldier.
Then if that was true, then it only means that Arnis did not originate from us Filipinos.
Some researchers states that ARNIS came from the great warrior and our first hero, Raja Lapu-Lapu
and it started from the weapon called Kampilan which was used against Ferdinand Magellan during the year 1500.
Some called it Kali, which came from the word Kalis.
According to WEDO, their have been studies and writtings about ARNIS, but up to now it is still a
big mystery due to lack of evidence. According to the research of WEDOSCAMAI their are five (5)
letters which compose the word ARNIS, and this five letters has the answer to our questions, if
we will believe in it. It states that ARNIS is not a ratan stick, wood, yantok, bahi or kamagong. Those are
not to be considered as the description of ARNIS.
According to WEDO, the word ARNIS came from five(5) letters which states that ARNIS came from the first family of
A-ARNISADORS that trains using a ratan stick, and that those families came from N-NEGROS and I-ILOILO
wherein they are dancing the SAULOG for an occasion or ritual ceremony.
According to WEDO, the SAULOG was a dance used by ARNISADORS for healing rituals. They were known
from Panay as Baylan, they dances while holding the ratan stick and circling around the one who is sick.
This tradition was practiced by our ancestors at the island of Panay.
According to the foundings of WEDO, Arnis is our hand. The ratan or any thing which is holded by
our hand is not to be considered as the art ARNIS. The weapon that Arnisadors hold is called a Baston or Tungkod.
Based from the findings made by WEDO, the tungkod or baston was used by the prophet Moses during the old years which
is written down in a passage from the Old Testaments.
It is clear that Arnis is referring to the hand of Filipinos. The baston or ratan stick is only
the extension of our hands or ARNIS. The word Arnisador is referring to the person who has the "Kinaadman" or
has the natural knowledge and ability, whether one holds a weapon in their hands or not, they will still be called
Arnisadors.
According to WEDO, it is time for us to open up our minds and if their is any questions about ARNIS.
It is up to you to find the answer to those questions. Discover and study the art Arnis which is already
within you and within everybody. This will serve as a challenge for those who wants to seek the ARNIS within them.
